Blu-ray DRM Shows Its Crack, Gets Tickled

This has happened before. Hasn't it? Surely this has happened before. A format, a DRM technology, and the promise of eversafe media protection without the messiness that free and fair media usage rights make when not restricted by protective technology. Blu-ray's much-lauded BD+ technology, once claimed to be unbreakable, was cracked just last week by AnyDVD maker SlySoft - and the Blu-ray-ripping possibilities will open up to anyone with the HDD space to handle them - and are, in fact, present in the beta release of AnyDVD 6.1.9.6:
"All available BD+ titles can be copied with AnyDVD ripper, or can be watched on HTPC without HDCP using PowerDVD 3104 and AnyDVD"
BD+ launches with the Blu-ray disc and runs concurrently so it can lock down playback if any evidence of monkey business gets discovered - so it functions as one of several means of protection, in addition to the AACS encryption that both Blu-ray and HD-DVD use. Oh! Wait! That's where I've heard this story before: AACS was cracked back in April.
No word yet from the Blu-ray Disc Association on the deflowering of its key security lead over HD-DVD - although they can't be happy campers at the moment.

If it ain't broke... cease production. Right?
I'm sure Blu-Ray is even less happy after last weekend's insane sell-off of HD-DVD players. All those players mean lots of consumers buying HD-DVD disks.
My partner and I have a Blu-Ray player and an HD-DVD drive for our X-Box. The Blu-Ray takes about 10 minutes to boot up, check security, check BD+, dance a little Irish jig, and show none-too-pretty progress bars on our TV. The HD-DVD player just starts up, just like a regular DVD player.
When I want to watch a movie, I don't want to wait forever for the disk to get going. Score one for HD-DVD.
Of course, Casino Royale is only available on Blu-Ray. Score one for Blu-Ray. If only Daniel Craig weren't so effing hot!
:D
this will get them more buyers...
but less studios willing to release movies under the format...
sony seems to be screwed
