Flatscreen TVs More Dependable, Study Finds

panasonic_flat_panel.jpg

Consumer Reports has found that flat panel T.V.'s (e.g. LCD's and plasmas) are much more reliable at an average 3% failure rate than rear projection televisions at an average 18% failure rate.

To further establish flat panel superiority, Consumer Reports also reported that most repairs were free and covered by warranty for flat panels, with an average out of warranty repair price of $264 for LCD's and $395 for plasmas.

As if you needed any more convincing regarding those extended warranties stores try to sell you at checkout, Consumer Reports again cautions against buying the warranties, warning consumers that they often do not provide value for the consumer.

If you haven't yet upgraded to an LCD or plasma set yet, the holiday season is coming up, so some great deals on flat panel sets should be coming out soon. I've highly enjoyed having upgraded to an LCD HDTV panel this year. The floor real estate savings from a flat panel add a huge amount value, and you can integrate them into your décor much more easily!
