HD Format War Update: Sales Through 11/18/2007

It's the start of another week, and that means we're once again due for an update on the HD Format War:
Today we get official confirmation that the $99 HD-DVD players have made little to no difference in the format war. Cheap players just can't compete with Blu-ray's strong disc sales. Blu-ray made a slight 1% gain this week in sales, with the year to date and all time sales percentages holding steady.
Nielsen did not release the top 10 selling disc list this week, so we don't have an update on whether Blu-ray's 7 spot dominance has held for another week (we'll have to wait for the tryptophan coma to wear off from the number crunchers at Nielsen.)
There has been a new development in the HD Format War this week; however, and it comes in the form of two viral videos released by the Blu-ray camp just in time for the holidays. "The Coaster" and "The Junk Closet" both tout Blu-ray's 2-to-1 sales lead, and show a near future where HD-DVD is gone the way of the Betamax. No doubt HD-DVD will try to launch back a salvo at Blu-ray soon.
Hit the jump for the videos.

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
How funny is the second video, when you remember that betamax was, like BluRay, a Sony product....
So... what I get from the second video is that the guy still uses VHS and unfortunately has never heard of DVD.
How sad! :(( [/joke]
anywho
remember when people got Betamaxed? that sounds good. now imagine if hd-dvd would lose the format war, what would you say? they got hd-dvd'd (???). that sounds like crap. So i think it would be in everyone's best interest if blu-ray lost because saying that someone got blu-rayed sounds so much better.
That first commercial is a complete lie. An HD DVD player's tray won't just open like that. It has to blink at you and display "welcome" for 48 seconds first.
