iPhone Security Hole Makes Easy Jailbreaking And Hacking Possible

iphone_front.jpg

While the news that the new iPhone 1.1.1 firmware can be opened up via visiting a simple website has been around the Internet for a while, I haven't seen much talk surrounding the incredible security concerns this raises.

If by simply going to a site my dear iPhone's firmware can be modified (a process that takes root access to accomplish), what's stopping malicious websites from loading up their own TIFFs that steal my address book information, compromise my phone, and do all kinds of other unspeakable things to my precious?

The TIFF security hole has been known for a while, but Apple has yet to address it with a software update. The good news for those that have used the online jailbreaking method; however, is that the jailbreak site actually patches this security hole itself.

Until Apple fixes this hole in an official patch; however, be aware that visiting unscrupulous sites on your iPhone may lead to some very bad results for your precious.

My boyfriend just hacked his using this flaw last night. He's been sending me all sorts of texts about the hacks he's installed all day long now.

Apparently, this is the way to go if you want to hack your phone. You don't have to worry about your phone bricking with updates because it's an easy un-install. All you have to do is a System Restore through iTunes, and your good to go!

I'm under the impression this requires physical access to the unit. You know, user interaction. It will all shake out soon enough, as can be seen with the first google/myspace "Opensocial" program released which was able to be hacked from afar, without user intervention.
