Kool-Aid Brigade: The Tech Cults of 2007

I sometimes wonder how exactly it is that Google's Image Search knows me so well. All I do is type in the word "cult" and out pops up this image! It brought a small tear to my eye to know that the great Google god knows me well enough to know exactly what I'm looking for.
In any case, as the year starts to roll to a close, it seems the internet's pundits are starting to put together their "best of" or "remember when" lists. It's something we have a tendency to do because we have a natural desire to rank things. Last week, we saw CNet release their list of Top ten terrible tech products, and now we are seeing one of my personal favorite lists, Cult Watch 2007: Who's Drinking the Kool-Aid?. Some of my personal favorites:
In reference to Apple Devotees:
Cult members themselves get an enhanced feeling of self-worth through group association. "I'm better than you! I have an iPhone!" Consumers can become one of the “chosen people” for $399, plus a two-year contract.
In reference to Microsoft Fanboys (What? Why are you looking at me like that?):
It's hard to inspire a cult when you're an uncharismatic market share leader. Nonetheless, a Microsoft cult does exist. In 2007, however, the group lost a lot of members, and those who remain have lost faith. Why? In a word: Vista... The cult got a minor revelation in the form of the new Zunes, which turned out to be surprisingly nice. Unfortunately, Apple preemptively PWNED this whole line with its new iPods.

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
I fully admit to being a Mac whore. I used to make fun of them as a small, elite club but when a friend of mine let me use his I was wowed. I bought my first G4 and have stayed mac ever since.
That said, the people who are fanatics for EITHER side are morons. Doy you own stock in one of the companies? Do you sit on the board of directors? Then shut up and buy what you like. Who cares if the other company sells more?
I agree Goblin. I love Macs too, but they are only computers and Apple is only a company. Not everything it does is inviolate and it shouldn't be worshiped like the gods of yore. You know the ones I mean.
That said, touch my iPhone and I will cut you.
