TI-Nspire Handheld Features Backwards Compatibility
I admit, I have a condensed core of science geekery in me (specially for Physics, specifically of the theoretical kind), so any time new gadgets come out that aid in those endeavours that core dances a little jig.
Texas Instruments is the de facto king in the field of advanced handheld calculators (I miss you HP!), and they've come up with a new calculator dubbed the TI-Nspire (now with Web 2.0 inspired missing vowels! Awesome!). The TI-Nspire handheld includes the usual software upgrades and new features you'd expect from a new TI model, but the really interesting bit is that TI has added backwards compatibility to the TI-Nspire handheld via a snap on keypad that mimics the TI-84 layout. This means it can run all the old TI-84 software in full compatibility mode with the same keypad as before: a huge relief to instructors everywhere whose lesson plans depend on TI-84s.
Once you're done using TI-84 software, you can swap out the old keypad for the new TI-Nspire keypad, which features easier character input via a full set of alphabet keys nestled in between its buttons.
