AIM And Google Hook Up, New Chat Feature Results

It's true, Google really is trying to permeate every aspect of your life. I have to admit, I'm pretty much willing to let it. They are kind of like that really hot guy in High School that can get everyone to do things for him and love him even more for him... you know you should cut him off, but you just can't because he makes you feel too good about yourself. That's how I feel about Google. I know I should cut them off at some point, but I just can't... they make me feel too good about my Internet experience.
Yesterday, Google announce AIM integration with GMail Chat. Now you can log right into your AIM account from GMail and chat away with all your buddies without having to have your AIM client running. On the interface side, Chat looks like it always has, with the exception the iconic AIM icon next to your AIM buddies. On the other end, your friends will see that you are logged in to AIM as usual. You can even still have your custom messages and away status.
I'm not sure this is necessarily revolutionary, but it is another nice touch from the Google team. I have loved me some GMail since I converted over from hotmail and yahoo two years ago, and I really haven't looked back. If, for some reason, you haven't made the jump to GMail, what's holding you back?

One way or another, Microsoft will try to sell you a phone.
It's a pity the other IM vendors won't just switch to the open standard Jabber protocol like Google has - if they did, there wouldn't be any need for hacks like this.
