HD Format War Update: Sales Through 12/2/2007

Last week, we saw the decimation of HD-DVD during Black Friday Weekend (of doom!), but this week HD-DVD comes back for revenge!
HD-DVD makes a 14% gain in this week's sales, prompted by extremely strong sales of the HD-DVD version of Planet Earth: The Complete Series. It seems everyone wants to watch the majesty of Earth in full HD resolution, as both the Blu-ray and HD-DVD versions of Planet Earth combined were the top sellers this week, selling almost twice as many copies as the second place holder - Live Free or Die Hard.
I've yet to see Planet Earth, but hopefully I get the Blu-ray version as a gift this holiday season so I can get my chance at beautiful imagery with Sir David Attenborough's dulcet tones in the background (am I the only one that *really* enjoys his voice?)
The 14% jump in HD-DVD sales this week has had no effect on the overall charts; however, with the year-to-date and all-time percentages holding steady. For now, the stalemate holds.
The top 10 HD disc sellers this week are:
- Live Free or Die Hard (Blu-ray)
- Planet Earth: The Complete Series (HD-DVD)
- Spider-Man 3 (Blu-ray)
- Transformers (HD-DVD)
- Ratatouille (Blu-ray)
- Planet Earth: The Complete Series (Blu-ray)
- 300 (Blu-ray)
- Shrek the Third (HD-DVD)
- Ocean's Thirteen (Blu-ray)
- Hairspray (Blu-ray)
