HD Format War Update: Sales Through 12/9/2007

Do you remember the crazy jump in HD-DVD sales that propelled it to an almost 50/50 split last week against Blu-ray?

Yeah, that's gone. Gone and left it all alone crying in a corner. This week, explosive sales of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End propelled Blu-ray up to a whopping 76% of the week's sales. Unfortunately for Blu-ray, this dominance didn't translate into any gains in the year or all time sales charts.

The top 10 HD disc sellers list is dominated by 8 Blu-ray titles this week:

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Blu-ray)
Superbad (Blu-ray)
Planet Earth: The Complete Series (HD-DVD)
Spider-Man 3 (Blu-ray)
Transformers (HD-DVD)
Live Free or Die Hard (Blu-ray)
Planet Earth: The Complete Series (Blu-ray)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Blu-ray)
Ratatoille (Blu-ray)
300 (Blu-ray)

Next week's sales charts will bring the results of a head to head match between the HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions of Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix, so sales for that should be telling.
