If You're Happy And You Know It, Sign A Two Year Contract

Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports has long been recognized as the definitive word in consumer analysis, rating customer satisfaction on tons of products and services. Anytime you're looking to make a big purchase or a long-term commitment, it's usually wise to swing on over to their website to see what they have to say about the product in question.

Recently, Consumer Reports (CR) published their look at Cell phone Service satisfaction for 2008. CR polled people in 20 different metropolitan areas and ranked common cell phone service factors like least static and number of dropped calls. So how did everyone rank out?

Verizon pulled in at the number one spot for the second year in a row, with T-Mobile chasing it's tail at number two (although Verizon is recognized as the "top" performer, it's worth noting that T-mobile performs well and often at a more affordable price). Alltell pulled in at number three, but shows promise of improving. AT&T came in fourth place, despite being the home of the wildly popular iPhone. And finally, everyone’s favorite punching bag Sprint comes in last place, ranking near the bottom in almost all respects.

While Verizon took top honors in the market, it's worth noting that they still only had a 70% approval rating. Overall, CR found, even with the widespread adoption rate, people just aren't happy with their cell service, saying:

...fewer than half the respondents were completely or very satisfied with their cell phone service.

What do you think? Are you happy with your carrier? Sound off in the comments!

I have AT&T just because of the iPhone. I can't say I'm terribly unhappy, really - though I must say calls DO drop more frequently than with my previous provider.
How is ALLTEL even a national carrier when you can't get service in big Californian metro areas? :-))
