CES 2008: Napster Nastalgic For MP3

In a move that, at least in my mind, is inevitable for all music downloading services, Napster has announced it's move to the DRM-free MP3 format for it's downloading service. It's entire catalogue of pay-per-download songs will make the move in Q2 of this year. While this does not apply to it's subscription based services, it is a nice touch from an old friend and arguably the creator of music downloading.
We haven't seen a pricing structure, but I would expect it to be in-line with Amazon's service. What makes this more exciting is that it's one more service that we can rely on for DRM-free music, which means more competition in the field, and more competition is almost always better for consumers.
No word yet whether Metallica will be present at the launch party...
