CES 2008: Neosonik Reveals Its Wireless Surround Sound

Neosonik.jpg

I have been begging the powers that be here at the Castle for a decent surround sound system since I moved in. Den Den and I will even come together and collude against Tiny, trying to sneak in some Dolby magic, but it inevitably fails each time. One of the other Castle inhabitants will no doubt find his/her way to the exact spot where the wires are running and trip, and while we all have a good, quick laugh, we then cry and realize why surround sound is such a hard selling point. There have been wireless surround sound options, but they've all failed due to lag or interference issues.

News out of CES yesterday brought a happy thought to mind. Another contender in the wireless surround sound arena has stepped to the plate, and it seems that this one may just have it right. Neosonik presented it's newest project yesterday, showcasing what they hope to be the definitive answer in surround sound. What sets them apart from others in the market? First, they use an AV controller to traffic and transmit the audio. Second, the use a proprietary form of 5GHz Spectrum technology called Aipower AV to transmit their signal, avoiding the interferance-prone 2.4GHz spectrum. Finally, all of their speakers pieces can go wireless from the system, including the sub-woofer, so that you can shape. style, and fashion the room as you see fit!

The company claims a 6 nanosecond delay, which is amazing, and CNET attests to the quality and lack of interference based on the demo on the CES floor. The biggest limitation is that each speaker needs to be plugged in to an outlet (I suppose that's to be expected, but if you live in a place like mine, that probably means more wires being ran rather than less). Hopefully, we'll see this start popping up around Summer of this year.
