Paramount Says No To Blu, Sticks With Red For Now

paramount_doesnt_love_blu-ray.gif

Following up on earlier rumours that Paramount may invoke a clause in its contract with HD-DVD to allow it to switch to Blu-ray, a Paramount spokesperson has spoken to Bloomberg News denying the rumours, for now:

"Paramount's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format,'' Brenda Ciccone, a spokeswoman for Paramount, said in an e-mail today.

The word "current" has a nice placement in that sentence, and no doubt Paramount is in an advantageous position at the moment, with the HD-DVD camp begging them to stay and an easy way to get out of their contract should they decide to switch.

Poor Michael Bay: you got him all excited for nothing, Paramount. Now he's going to have to cancel his Blu-ray Party Bash.
