iPhone SDK Press Event On March 6

iPhone_SDK_delay_announcement.jpg

Speaking of the iPhone SDK, Apple this morning sent out invitations to the media for a special "iPhone Software Roadmap" event to be held on the Apple campus at 10AM on March 6:

Pleasse join us to learn about the iPhone software roadmap, including the iPhone SDK and some exciting new enterprise features. The event takes place at Apple, Building 4, Town Hall on March 6 at 10:00 a.m. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Arrive early for this invitation-only event.

While I'm hurt that Apple didn't send me an invitation, I'm glad we'll finally be getting an update on exactly what's going on with the iPhone SDK and third party application development.

If you recall, Steve Jobs had previously announced that the iPhone SDK (the tools necessary for developers to make applications for the iPhone) would be available this February, but the last Tuesday in February (Apple traditionally does releases on Tuesdays) has come and gone with no release, making many of us expect a delay.

The invitation hints that the iPhone SDK might not be released on March 6 (which happens to be a Thursday), but of interest to businesses is the phrase "some exciting new enterprise features."

Could this finally mean the arrival of true Outlook integration and many other features enterprise users have been asking for? (so they can jump from their Crackberries to the iPhone?)

We'll have to wait and see until next Thursday!
