Is That A Touchscreen BlackBerry In Your Pocket?

In other what's in your pocket news, Research in Motion's ambitions for a touchscreen BlackBerry seem to have been confirmed by this patent filing, spotted in the wild by the trendsters at Electronista. While the traditional BlackBerry pearl trackball navigator is still present (I like to think of it as the "berry"), the redesign slides the keyboard underneath what is a larger, more touch-worthy screen.

Whether the screen is touchable, uses a stylus or a finger, or even whether it will exist at all are all still open questions, but we'd be silly not to expect some kind of iPhone challenger from RIM - whether it's the much-touted 9000-series model that will tackle the iPhone while being more business-robust, and whether that hypothetical 9000-series model is related to this patent - those are also still open questions!
