The Sharper Image Not Redeeming Gift Cards

Remember when we mentioned that The Sharper Image was filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy?

Those of you unfortunate enough to be holding a gift card, reward card, gift certificates, or merchandise certificates from The Sharper Image and wanted to grab a few gadgets during clearance and going out of business sales are completely out of luck, as The Sharper Image is not redeeming the certificates:

The Company intends to continue to conduct business as usual while it devotes renewed efforts to resolve its operational and liquidity problems and develops a reorganization plan.

However, The Sharper Image is suspending the aceptance of Gift Cards, Rewards Cards, Gift Certificates or Merchandise Certificates as a form of payment."

The situation is so dire that a source told Boing Boing Gadgets that "the manager told me she already has a new job as internally they were told it is totally over."

Ouch.

Personally, I'm thinking 'good riddance.' I was never moved to buy something from any The Sharper Image stores, finding most of the products featured either too expensive or piles of utter crap. I won't miss them in the slightest, but this action is really going to burn anyone who was hoping to use those gift cards they got over the holidays.

I'd say it's extremely bad customer service, but it's not like the company cares if it's going to close down.
