Wally World <3's Blu-Ray Too

Give it a rest already! HD DVD, you should follow the lead of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney and bow out gracefully. We know you really want to win this fight, and we truly believe in your spirit, but you've been bested in this fight by Blu-Ray. I know Toshiba, it's unfair to attempt to compete against an completely vertical, arguably monopolistic corporation like Sony when it comes to new optical formats, but given the track record Sony's previous formats had, we all thought you had a chance too! Come on, I'll buy you a beer or something and you can cry it out while you fade into the annals of format wars history...
Today, we received news that Wal-Mart, the behemoth that practically defines retail viability, will be backing down from HD DVD, going so far as to be completely Blu-Ray by June. I know, all the readers out there are thinking "but weren't they the ones that had the $99 HD DVD players just before Thanksgiving?" And if you're thinking that, you are correct. Good memory! And those sold really well. But what does that speak to the state of HD DVD when the best deal that we have seen on your hardware hasn't produced any significant results? On top of that, the very retailer that pushed that deal will quit carrying your format less than 7 months later?
Ouch, guys. Be prepared for the coming invasion of Sony and it's Blu-Ray army!

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
Boo-urns! Although I do own HD-DVD (and don't know how many more nails that coffin will take), right now I'm just going to skip physical formats altogether and will stick to getting my content from Xbox Live, Amazon Unbox/TiVo and iTunes.
This is most definitely the last nail in the coffin.
Once Wal*Mart decides you're dead, you're done.
People who submit to digital downloads frighten and confuse me. Ooh, there are two formats incompatible with each other due to temporary technical limitations? Screw that, I'll get in on these three formats that are likely to expire out from under me and are guaranteed never to interoperate because of copyright and corporate greed. Besides, even HD DVD looks like ass because of its low bitrate. Digital downloads are not even remotely feasible for good-looking HD.
Anyway, I just got back from Wal*Mart before I read this, and there were two HD-A3s, some PS3s, and no movies in either format, so if there's any real news here, I'd say it's that Wal*Mart is considering getting involved at all.
