Flickr Video Coming In April

flickr_logo.jpg

News coming out of the Flickr Fourth Anniversary Party this weekend is indicating that Flickr Video will be coming to the frothy masses next month. While no solid details about the service have been revealed, including how they plan to compete in the market or how they plan to appeal to Flickr's user base, Flickr insiders have stated that they plan to appeal to Flickr-ers "in an authentic" way.

While I've used, and generally liked Flickr, for awhile now, I'm not too sure how the video function will fold into the brand "authentically." Honestly, I've been using Picasa more and more lately, if only for the storage limits. And with Yahoo!'s generally poor performance of late, and with the looming Microsoft buy-out, is this really a smart move for Yahoo? I know a good chunk of the readers are Flickr fans as well, what do you all think about a new Flickr branded video sharing service? What can they do to make a compelling competitor to YouTube and the ever-rising MySpace Video?

Keep your eyes peeled for the new service, set to hit the Beta benchmark mid April.
