My sources at Apple have just informed me of a terrific deal on MacBook Pros going on right now, if you don't mind buying the slightly older models that were replaced by the newer iPhone Multi-Touch pad models a week ago.

What kind of prices are we taking about? Check out the crazy discounts:

MacBook Pro 15" w/2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 120GB SATA HDD, 8x Superdrive : $1349
MacBook Pro 15" w/2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB SATA HDD, 8x Superdrive : $1499
MacBook Pro 17" w/2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB SATA HDD, 8x Superdrive : $1999

These prices represent around a $500-700 discount from the regular prices, and are for new MacBook Pros.

The reason for these discounts? Apple is trying to clear out their stock of the previous MacBook Pros to make way for the new Multi-Touch enabled MacBook Pros.

These prices are a great deal if you're looking for a new laptop with lots of power and great design (and don't mind not having the new multi-touch trackpads.)

The catch? These prices are only available through Apple employees, designed for them to give to family and associates, so you'll have to make friends with an Apple employee near you for the deals.

Me? I'm facing a hard decision as some Apple gift cards burn a whole in my pocket. Must... call... Apple employee friend...
