Microsoft Finds A Way To Kill Music Industry
Or is it that they just killed Music, in general? You be the judge there, but if you ask me, this could be the biggest disservice to Music. Ever.
MySong is the newest atrocity cool thing to come out of Microsoft Research, and allows people with absolutely no musical experience to create these interesting noise collections MS is quaintly calling Songs. While the idea is almost cool, it's really pretty lame at the end of the day. If you send your significant other a song you "wrote" with MySong, I wouldn't be too surprised to find yourself single just like Conner here.

If it ain't broke... cease production. Right?
Wow, now anyone can have sloppy, off-tempo piano accompaniment, and not just the socially connected, creative elite, or fabulously wealthy. Thanks, creepy infomercial knock-off, for giving the world hope!
Holy crap that hurt my ears so much >.<
And IIIIIIIIIIIIIII-e-IIIIIIIIIII-e-IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII will always love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-ooo-ooo-ooooooooooo!
That's so bad it gave me cancer. And Connor, sweetie, honey, dear... um, girlfriend?
this thing is potentially awesome and doubtless fascinating. the "i need to sell a jingle" idea is a good one, hough that's a fairly limited market, i'd guess. but, it showcases once again some of the limits of voice-recognition technology inasmuch as the chords chosen necessarily have to be generic and, apparently, tied only to the particular beat you're singing without much concern for the overall arc of the song.
the thing i find so comical about this little video is that they begin showing the program by taking "the way you look tonight,"one of the most popular and recognizable songs of the twentieth century, and allowing the program to completely butcher it. if they had just left it to the jingle or the homo breaking up with his girlfriend, i probably would have gotten excited about this. but comparing the generic mediocrity of MySong to the stunning genius of Jerry Kern just wasn't the way to go.
Andy, you left out the Mac geeks too. *shrugs* an idiot proof, less flexible garage band? ^_^ wtg MS
