Shine: Yahoo's New Site For Girls, Gurls, Grrrls, And Girls-To-Be

You know those crazy cats over at Yahoo! are always cooking up something new. Their newest project went live today, a website called Shine, which is directed straightly at the Female audience... or gayly at the Female-impersonator audience... or indirectly at the Metrosexual/Homosexual/"I'm not gay if I top" audience. Whichever.
The site features all sorts of wonderfully girly things, such as content areas and original blogs about Fashion, Parenting, Love, Relationships, and Health and Beauty Care! Oh, and career stuff too. Shine's appeal is to be a destination site, where someone could go to all the information that is important to them, presumably, because they are female. Or they could just make a custom Goole homepage featuring everything they are actually interested in.
For all the nastiness being thrown at the site from the blogosphere today, it actually looks decent. It's well put together and really does seem to designed by and for women, not just old men that think they know what women want. Users will be able to create their own blogs that could be featured on the site, access their Yahoo! mail, and Yahoo! messenger integration is planned for the future. All-in-all, it seems like a fairly decent offering, if not just a little bit stereotyped. And we know how much we here at Homotron hate stereotypes. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to listening to my Barbara Streisand albums while dancing better than any straight person ever could before I go back to Hair Design School.
