MySpace Loses 'co.uk' Domain

NEWS-14329-e4dbfa414cc69465847089d5cb0c5e1f.jpg

An appeals panel in the UK has stripped MySpace of its myspace.co.uk domain, passing ownership back to a small ISP in Stockport, UK, which first registered the domain 11 years ago. And while Total Web Solutions' registration of the domain preceded MySpace by two years, .uk domain name registry Nominet UK, had previously handed over the domain name to MySpace, which is owned by Fox, which is why the original ruling seemed unfair but not surprising.

"We refused to be bullied by one of the largest media organisations in the world," says the Total Web Solutions' Managing director Paul Fallon. "This has been a very stressful case for a legitimate medium sized ISP to have to take on - but we had to defend our reputation and to stand up for what was right."

Taking on the Fox-backed metastatic internet phenom cannot have been an easy task - but perhaps not a move popular with the UK's vast MySpace users. Now that the rule of might has been overturned, TWS claims that Nominet attempted to "unfairly help" MySpace and its solicitor is standing for election to the Nominet board and seemingly attempting to divorce the domain resolution service from the Nominet company.
