Sony Hates Itself, Pirates Software

There is just about nothing more exciting than corporate hypocrisy. It's so juicy and delicious, it makes my mouth water, and in this case, it makes my heart flutter just a little bit too.
One of Sony BMG's IT staff called PointDev, a small Windows administrative tools developer, for a support issue recently. The only problem was that Sony didn't have a legally obtained license. They had pirated the software, and it has now come to light that up to 47% of software on Sony BMG's machines could be pirated as well. So, to put this in perspective, Sony spends almost all their time developing DRM schemes and suing pirates... on pirated software.
The saddest part is that PointDev is an extremely small outfit of six employees. The silver lining is they will all most likely retire comfortably after they win their piracy suit against Sony. Good on you, Sony, for leading with Character and Compassion. The only thing that would make this better is if they used Bit Torrent on a Comcast network to download the software.

I was in a terrible mood before reading this. I would love it even more if they used Bit Torrent. You're right, there is nothing more exciting than corporate hypocrisy.
