Borders Breaks Up With Amazon.com, Tries Its Own Thing

After witnessing their stock drop from $23 to less than $7 a share over the past year, Borders Books has decided to shift its online sales technique away from Amazon.com. The two companies paired in 2001 and loved one another, fitfully, over the interim. But then Borders was seen flirting with James Patterson over cocktails someplace downtown and Amazon.com, like, got all pissy and like, totally said, "Bitch, this is the last straw!"
Er, something like that.
Its new site—cleverly titled www.borders.com—shows off some techie prowess. The "magic bookshelf" shows covers of new books, DVDs and CDs in the same way you'd browse them in-store ... except digital, and on your computer.
Due to Borders' shitty finances, talks are already in progress about its main competitor, Barnes & Noble, buying the sucker out. So when you think about it, splitting from Amazon.com might not have been the best idea. Now that they're forced to fend for their own, Borders will likely experience a severe downfall in their sales.
So all those Borders stores you're used to seeing? Not for long.

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
but... but... but borders is so much better than barnes and noble! :(
Yay for Boston photos!
I work for a publishing company that distributes to Borders, and in a recent meeting, we were discussing Borders' imminent downfall. Apparently they owe my company quite a bit of money that they don't have. I don't expect them to be around very much longer, either. o_O
NOOOOOOOO!!!! I love me some Borders! I really do! I mean, B&N is OK, but there's just something more... wholesome and non-condescending about Borders! /cry
