Meme Alert: Mozilla Wants To Generate Its Own Meme

cutefox.jpg

Lovers of Firefox, and the upcoming Firefox 3, are "pledging" to download the FF3 within a 24-hour time span in order to cram Mozilla into the Guinness Book of World Records as having set the software download world record.

Currently, the Guinness Book of World Records doesn't even have a software download world record, so no matter what Mozilla does or does not do, it'll squeegie in there.

As I write this, I'm using the beta of FF3, and frankly, I can't tell the difference between this and the previous iteration. Well, this crashes a lot less, and, on my Mac at home, reeks of Safari design, but really: what's the diff? I know Jesse James was all up in Mozilla's grill about FF3, but why?

I understand the new bookmark system, and how one can simply click the little star at the end of the URL bar and slap that sucker in their bookmarks. I accidentally thought it was a rating system. Whoops.

And I realize it sucks up less memory, and for that, I'm thrilled. Otherwise....

F3 seems to work a lot better than F2 in Vista, not that anyone cares. That and being able to save your session without forcing Firefox to crash is pretty neat.

On a different note, now that you have pointed out the star and I know what it does I might actually use it...
