'Planilum' Replaces Light Bulbs With Glass

Screw those fancy compact fluorescent light bulbs - we don't need no stinking bulbs! Not with "Planilum," the world's first "light emitting glass" developed over the past six years by Saazs and Saint-Gobain Innovations.
In the future, pieces of 0.8 inch-thick Planilum will illuminate our homes without the need for lightbulbs - being incorporated into furniture and decor, rated for 50,000 hours of use (about 20 years of regular use) and being 90% recyclable. Plus, it looks cool.
While I'm not sure I want to plug my coffee table and window blinds into power outlets, the soft glow that eliminates the need for lampshades is definitely tasty.
Four layers of special glass, one rare gas and serigraphed phosphors comprise Planilum, and if that kinda thing floats your boat, you're a better man than I - the last time I tried to serigraph my phosphors I couldn't sit down for a week. Ouch.
