Rumorama: Comcast To Meter Bandwidth

Comcast Logo

Apparently, like Time Warner Cable before it, Comcast is now playing with the idea of metering customer's bandwidth:

Comcast is considering a rate hike for broadband customers who consume more than 250 gigabytes of data each month, though there are no immediate plans for implementation.

"Comcast is currently evaluating this service and pricing model to ensure we deliver a great online experience to our customers," the company said in a statement. "We have not made any changes to our current service offerings and have no new announcement to make at this time."

Peachy.

Is this the future of Internet access in the US?

If so, I've said it before and I'll say it again: the US is shooting itself in the foot by having such crappy Internet infrastructure. Good luck keeping up with the new Internet economy if the nation's providers spend all their time looking for ways to limit their customers.
