Wireless Companies Sued For Double-Charging SMS

Nobody likes being charged for both outgoing calls and incoming calls - especially unsolicited incoming calls. Some mobile providers pull the same stunt on text messages: charging for messages you receive as well as those that you send. But like incoming calls, incoming SMS messages aren't within the customer's sphere of control, which would quite appropriately upset anyone whose mobile plan doesn't cover unrestricted SMS.
Folks in Mississippi have launched a class-action lawsuit against AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, US Cellular, Cellular South and Virgin Mobile, claiming that without the option to turn SMS off it is wrongful to charge anyone for incoming messages. Also words like "unauthorized charges and "unjust enrichment." That last one sounds fun.
Expect a blow-off settlement from this one, methinks, but also perhaps a lively bit of self-justification from the TelCos.
