Yahoo Still Not Merging With Microsoft

microhop.jpg

While what's really going on between Microsoft and Yahoo is anybody's guess, Yahoo claims that Microsoft is no longer interested in any sort of acquisition. This despite major contradictions and mid-May talks that seem barely to have ended.

Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang went on record by saying that Microsoft walked away from the table (the first time) with a "tremendous amount of power," and again from the second round of talks this month:

"We did not walk away from that proposal. Microsoft did," Reuters quotes Yang as saying in an on-stage interview at the D: All Things Digital conference. "Microsoft is no longer interested in buying the company, and we are talking about other things. We definitely have to understand what they're proposing."

Microsoft still takes interest in Yahoo, admits Yang, although in a rather nebulous way. Yang stopped short of making out with Google to make MS jealous, but did drop hints that the market hasn't really assessed the value of a Yahoo-Google partnership.

If Google married Yahoo, would that make it GooOo? Or maybe GooHoo?
