Australian Man Sells Entire Life On eBay, Raises $2.2 Million

how_much.jpg

After Ian Usher's wife left him last year, he decided he couldn't live his life anymore, so in March, he put it up for sale on eBay.

The initial asking price was $400,000 and at the time of this writing, has raised $2.2 million.

Along with his his three-bedroom Australian home, 19-year-old Mazda 929 sedan, a 1986 motorbike and jetski, the winning bidder will get Ian's friends and his job selling rugs (for a two-week trial period, natch).

Where many people would enter grief counseling and perhaps move to a one-bedroom condo on a noisy, cluttered street, Ian Usher has opened the doors to a vastly different world: a world where we can legally sell absolutely everything we have, personality included.

It raises many important, thoughtful questions, such as "What's the cost of a life?" and "How much would I get?" Personally, I rent, and don't own a helluva lot of things, so my price would be pretty sad and would probably make me kill myself. My friends are awesome, though. Don't know if the winner would actually get along with them, but, y'know, different strokes.

How does this make you feel? Are you confused, angry, aroused? Would you ever consider selling yourself? Would you be surprised and disheartened if no one bid?

While this might be a kinda romantic idea, I'm sure that there will be plenty of legal reasons why this wouldn't work in a practical sense. If the guys has a mortgage, does the new owner take that on or does the seller have to pay it off first? How about taxes, loans, passwords in online accounts? And would it also cover his WoW avatar?
