Because You're A Thief And You're Going To Hell

hamburglar.gif

A major British poll determined the average teenager's iPod contains at least 842 illegally downloaded or copied songs. Given the average size of an mp3 player, we're talking roughly 50% of a music collection: illegal.

So not only are the youth of America running rampant with their rock and/or roll and their homosexuality, but they're stealing music! Gasp, says the conservative, idiotic talking heads of the world.

I say "duh" and "natch" and "hello." I'd wager that more than 50% of my music collection is outright stolen. I steal it from friends, enemies, loved ones, Internet weirdos, mp3-trading blogs; anywhere I can steal a good dab of music, I do it (unless, of course, it's Coldplay or something along those limp-wristed lines).

What about you, you filthy degenerate thief? Are you a filthy degenerate thief like me or one of those evangelical Christian creeps from Jesus Camp who never sins and buys all yer tunes?

HA! That's some funny right there.

People are trading music? Never happened before computers!

We never made cassettes from our friends lp's or cassettes... never, I say!

Now it's more simple and our 'friends' list is global.

But it's nothing new.

I steala crapton of music from BitTorrent, but I'll gladly plunk down $12 on a CD from a band I know will deliver a full album I'll enjoy or if it's an indie band I want to support. IN all honesty, most of the stuff I steal I wouldn't pay for anyway. I'd just have a MUCH smaller music collection, is all.

God bless Steve Jobs and his 160GB iPod.

Goblin's statement pretty much wraps up my sentiments. If I can't find an album for a price that I find acceptable (usually no more than $12) I'll find it on the internet.

Legal downloading still doesn't appeal to me though. Amazon's service gives nice quality mp3s without the DRM but I've found the price is usually only like a dollar less than buying the album outright. Combine that with Amazon Prime shipping...
