Cyber-shot C905 Isn't Tryin To Kill iPhone

Sony/Ericson announced today a new niche market phone today, the C905. As compared to their previous music-inspired Walkman phones (which are pretty damned cool, sleek and useful for people wanting an affordable music phone), the C905 is based on Sony's Cyber-shot franchise. Knowing that people have been using their cell phones to snap pictures more and more these days, and seeing that they want to take advantage of this trend by using one of their strong brands, the C905 will incorporate a fairly smart 8.1 MP camera into the phone.
The phone will resemble the almost iconic slider style of Sony's Cyber-shot cameras, and will even take use face-recognition technology. Not that I want anyone to get a better snap of my mug at all, but that is cool. I also like that it'll be a lot more obvious when people try to pretend to be texting, but they're really taking a picture of that hot guy on the train… to which I plead the 5th.
This is a good idea. Integrating high quality hardware into phones absolutely ups the ante for the market, and satisfies the niche consumers. It's also very nice to see a phone introduction without the obligatory "iPhone Killerzzzszs!!!1!" There is no price info just yet, and we will most likely not see this guy until near the end of the year, by which time DSLR cameras will be up to approximately 5,672.3459 MP.
