Firefox 3 Day = Tomorrow. Are You Prepared?

ff3robot.jpg

Tomorrow (aka, Tuesday June 17) will be the official release day for the final build of Firefox 3! The internets have been all abuzz lately about the various beta build and release candidates of the open source browser (including my own musings), and the reviews are generally positive. It seems that there are still some issues, and some others are not quite sure what the big deal is (I'm looking at you Neon!), but, then again, most people are still using Internet Explorer inexplicably, so there's that...

There are a good amount of new features and fun things going on with Firefox 3. A niftier Download Manager, a nicely done Bookmark manager, better memory usage, and a nice web protocol handler system (enabling you to set up your web-based e-mail service to kick in when you click "mailto:" links, etc.) are a few things to get excited about, but for a deeper look into the new hotness that is Firefox 3, check out this solid write up of all the new goodness.

Even as rabid Firefox fans line up to participate in what Mozilla is hoping is their new Meme (they're trying to create a Guiness World Record for most downloads within a 24-hour period), Mozilla has already started talking about what is going to be in their first incidental release for their new browser-to-end-all browsers. 3.1 is purported to bring a few updates to the browser, like Vista-style tab previews and HTML 5 video element support.

Personally, the only thing I'm worried about is add-on support. I love me some Firefox add-ons. Allot. If you're like me, you might want to check out Mozilla Product Manager Alex Polvi's blog post concerning the current state of add-on migration from Firefox 2 to 3. Also, if you're like me at all, you'll be anxiously anticipating Flock's inevitable integration of the Firefox 3 code, which should be hitting beta in a few more weeks.

So yeah, there's a ton of info for you Firefox 3 starved masses. Hope to see you all in the imaginary to download Firefox 3 tomorrow!
