SoftBank Bringing iPhone To Japan

55774724jt3.jpg

Late last night (in NYC, anyway) SoftBank published what might be the shortest press release I've ever seen. But for one sentence this announcement packs a serious punch:

SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp. today announced it has signed an agreement with Apple® to bring the iPhone™ to Japan later this year.

It's hard to expound upon that little morsel of Eastern delight other than to say that Japanese gadget enthusiasts will be able to indulge their iPhone lust later this year.

The standing rumor has been that Apple will partner with Japanese market leader NTT Docomo, but SoftBank holds a more elite position (with Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz appearing on more SoftBank adverts than you could count) and with Apple's cooler-than-cool attitude, SoftBank makes sense.

The thing that excites me the most about this is the fact that Japanese input will finally make its way to my iPhone.

I'll finally be able to communicate with my Japanese friends on the go!
