Solid State Drives Becoming Affordable Soon?

Yes, Virginia, today is SATA Day here at Homotron (apparently), but I'll keep it relevant with this bit of news on the future of solid state drives, specifically prices.
Today, 64GB of SSD space on a MacBook Air will run you about $1,000 extra, which isn't the most affordable cost-per-gigabyte, is it? Intel has said that the days of astronomically priced SSDs might come to an end as early as this winter, as Multilevel Cell technology allows manufacturers to beef up the storage capacity of solid state drives to a more competitive 256GB.
This technological edge should encourage more companies to enter the SSD ring, which in turn will lower SSD prices - eventually.
Intel forecasts that one day we'll be paying about $1 per GB of SSD storage, a far cry from the $15.60 price-per-GB of that MacBook Air option. I'm not holding my breath, but the fact remains that SSDs - and all their concurrent lightweight, no-moving-parts benefits - will eventually grace our machines. And that, my dears, is a good thing.
