Gaydar Is For Really Real!
Gaydar is real! At least, according to one research study out of one college it is. You know, those crazy institutions of higher learning are always up to something kooky!
In the study, participants were shown face pics of guys for just under a second. After seeing the photos, the participants were able to judge, with relative accurateness, whether that person was gay or not (relative accurateness is such a cute term. The really mean slightly better than luck). Given more time to view the pics, their answers did not improve, but give less time, they became drastically worse.
So what does this mean? Is this more evidence of nature vs nurture? Are people really more perceptive than we've given them credit for? Or are we gay men just that damned obvious? (answer: yep, more than we think we are, apparently). The researchers suggest that it might be a survival of the species kind of thing, where knowing who is an available mate is crucial. Others say that life experience has an impact on our facial features, and people are keen to pick up on those sorts of things.
I'd like to see this taken one step further in the next study and see if gay men are better equipped than hetero men to spot the gays. I would say that we are, but that could be a biased opinion. After all, everyone is a little gay. Right? Riiiight guys? **Rolls over to tickle Rex Grossman on one side and Ricky Martin on the other**
