Rumorama: Nokia Making Zune Phone?

A juicy rumor from a Microsoft source said today that Nokia is developing handsets compatible with the Zune Marketplace. The rumor specifies that Nokia isn't making custom Zune phones (which Nokia itself has publicly denied), but instead making sure that some of its future handsets will be compatible with the Zune store. Nothing was mentioned concerning the hypothetical phones' abilities to direct-download vs syncing with a PC.
Nokia has previously opted for Symbian over Windows Mobile, but the company has been Microsoft-friendly before: support for Exchange and Windows Media files. Could the rumored phone be a Symbian device rather than Windows Mobile? It would be a first.
As with most rumors, no dates were mentioned, nor meetings. But rather than commit itself to bootstrap yet another piece of hardware, it does seem wise for Microsoft to attempt to partner up with brands that already have an established install base and consumer following. At least until a Windows Mobile 7 phone is an imminent possibility.
