Take That, Cute Adorable Justin Long!

bigpc.jpg

Putting aside for a moment the intensely personal disgust I feel at the very thought of Jerry Seinfeld's face, Microsoft is looking for celebrity talent to star in some Vista-positive propaganda advertisements. And apparently has already paid Seinfeld $10 million to appear alongside Bill Gates in ads with the brain-numbingly awkward theme of "Windows not Walls."

The ads, which would begin airing on September 4, would constitute one of the largest campaigns Microsoft has ever picked up, and would be a direct counter to Apple's "Get a Mac" ads that feature John Hodgeman and Justin Long.

Of course I've yet to see the ads, which could conceivably be great, but which I suspect will be more of the design-by-committee, miss-the-target-entirely product we've come to expect and loathe from Microsoft.

I'm not a Mac guy. I'm a PC guy. And yet, when I saw that Microsoft execs felt that Apple's funny and true ads were "hijacking Vista's perception", I wanted to howl. This is Vista we're talking about: I don't need any negative press to convince me of its endlessly recurring shortcomings - I have my own experience, which is twice as damning and much less likely to be ameliorated by Jerry Seinfeld, of all people.

omg, I thought I was the only one.

I suspect these commercials are going to be just as annoying as the stupid, bad-science Mojave "experiment" ones (which by unfortunate chance is the advertisement currently under this post).
