AT&T: iPhone 3G Data Use?
Not So Much.

Oy. AT&T had braced itself for a 5x increase in data traffic with the introduction of the new iPhone, yet the increase in data traffic between the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G has been only a mild 3x increase. And while 3G issues have certainly dissuaded many iPhone 3G owners to stick to WiFi areas when it comes to traffic-intensive tasks, can that alone really explain the discrepancy? Or perhaps AT&T's expectations were too high?
When it comes to other phones, however, the usage that the iPhone 3G has been getting outstrips all others - in fact, high concentrations of iPhone owners in certain areas have been solely responsible for encouraging AT&T to upgrade and expand its infrastructure.
How's that for a paradox? The iPhone's enormous theoretical traffic demands have necessitated network changes that have gone largely untested by the iPhone's only-moderate actual traffic demands. Small wonder, then, that AT&T's 4G plans are so laid back: the carrier won't even begin 4G trials until 2010, with actual 4G service taking quite a bit longer.

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
Yeah... I'm sure the 3G usage would be higher if people could, you know, get on and stay on a 3G network.... and if, once on a 3G network, it worked... just throwing it out there...
