Esquire's "E-Ink" Hits The Newstand
Not too long ago, Esquire Magazine announced that they would be releasing the world's first "E-Ink" cover for a newsstand magazine. People were kind of curious and a tiny bit interested, and it seemed the magazine was simply fascinated by their own ingenuity for their 75th anniversary issue.
The issue has finally hit the stands, and we now have a video showing exactly how exciting (?) this is. Call me jaded, but it looks like a little LCD on the cover of a magazine... which, to me, is hardly something to be excited about. It's a decent marketing effort to call it "E-Ink," but I think we owe it to the general public to call a spade a spade.
The magazine is fully aware that their system is hackable, and seems to be almost encouraging it, but... well, I mean, it's Esquire. I'm finding it kind of hard to care. They are also declaring that the "21st Century begins now!" I suppose that's a reference to their newfangled, Harry Potter moving pictures and words on a screen thing? If you aren't quite as jaded as I am, run out and check it out, but if you are, the video above should be more than enough.
