Happy 50th Birthday, Integrated Circuit!

Today marks an extremely important day for the history of gadgets everywhere: the 50th birthday of the integrated circuit!
On September 12, 1958, Jack Kilby, working in the Texas Instruments labs, successfully tested the very first working integrated circuit, pictured to the right. The invention allowed for cheap, efficient modern processors and computer components. We wouldn't have any of the gadgets we love today without it!
For his work inventing the integrated circuit, Kilby earned a Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000.
Wired has a great photo-series of the history of the integrated circuit; check it out below!
