NVIDIA Rebranding GeForce This Winter

It looks like 2009 will see a major hardware upgrade for NVIDIA that will rebrand its long-running GeForce brand of graphics processors. That's not unsurprising considering that the "GeForce #" pattern has run out of single digits. In other words, we'll never see a GeForce 10 - the new 45nm cards will be labeled differently to more clearly indicate the performance level of each model.
NVIDIA's suffixes seem to be slated to survive, however. The plan will reserve the "GTX" moniker for highest-end cards, "GS" and "GT" for mainstream cards, and a simple "G" for budget cards. To kick off the new naming trend, NVIDIA will rebrand its 9400 GT cards as G100 and the 9500 GT through 9800 GT cards will be changed to GT120 through GT150.
Massive simplification FTW, in my book.
