Senator Scolds US Carriers Over SMS Rates

sms.png

Finally! US Senator Herb Kohl, a Democrat from Wisconsin, has taken four US carriers to task over the doubling of SMS rates over the past three years.

Kohl sent letters to Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile and scolded them for "sharply rising rates [these] companies have charged to wireless phone customers for text messaging."

All four carriers have doubled their SMS fees to $0.20 since 2005, and Senator Kohl calls out these carriers for raising their prices at about the same time and with identical rates - in other words, he's softly accusing them of price fixing. Which, if true, would surprise me... how much? Not one bit.

No response yet from any of the companies involved, but we'll let you know what develops!
