Facebook Chat Spam Evidence Of Security Breach?

I've been noticing a disturbing trend recently on Facebook: over the past few weeks, I've been randomly getting messages like the one pictured (received from one of my friends in the last couple of days) from various friends. All of these messages contain spam of some sort, and all have been done without the knowledge of the friend who sent them.
It seems I'm not alone; there's even threads on Facebook discussing the issue, including users who share their own experiences with getting spam through Facebook chat from friends:
I just discovered that I've been spamming people whenever I'm online. I have to go offline purposefully for it to stop. It's really, really annoying.
The problem seems to be platform agnostic, as my friends have told me that I've sent them spam messages in the last few weeks, and I use a Mac as my main computer. This seems to point to a security flaw in Facebook's systems instead of the end user (or a browser based security flaw.)
Is this indicative of a deeper security issue with Facebook? Is Facebook chat safe?
No word from Facebook so far regarding the issue, but I'll try and see what I can figure out about the problem.
Are you experiencing spam on Facebook chat?

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
I wonder if that works from within adium as well?
"I use a Mac as my main computer. This seems to point to a security flaw in Facebook's systems instead of the end user"
because macs don't get viruses.. thats why they don't sell antivirus software for macs... oh... wait.. they do
quit thinking you are infallible, i work in a computer services department at a school that primarily uses macs. guess what, they get viruses too
