From GayGamer: Xbox Blu-ray Rumor Resurfaces Again

xbox360bluray.bmp

My darling GayGamer cohort Wootini posted this blurb about the oft-rumored external Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360, which is gaining increasing rumor-mill momentum and a certain sense of inevitability:

I wish that Microsoft would either just release it or not, because this is getting a little old. Ever since Blu-ray soundly trounced HD-DVD in the next-generation HD video war, rumors have been swirling about Microsoft admitting they'd made a mistake backing HD-DVD and incorporating Blu-ray in the Xbox 360, whether through a new model of console or an external drive. And I know you're probably as tired of reading these rumors as I am of reporting them. But this might be more than just a rumor.

According to a new report, Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp has already been contacted by Microsoft to build an external Blu-ray drive, which should retail for around $100-150. No word when it'll be released, but I still wonder if this is really necessary. I know that Blu-ray looks better than a DVD when you're watching a movie, but does it really matter when it comes down to games? I think Nintendo has proven that you don't have to cater to the high definition crowd to find success in the market. So I really don't think Microsoft really needs to bother with an external Blu-ray drive. I can't imagine I'd pick one up — I'm perfectly happy watching my DVD's, thank you very much.
