Gadget Of The Week: Firefox For Mobile
If you happen to be the proud owner of a Nokia N810 or N800 internet tablet, congratulations! You're one of the few folks in the solar system who can check out the alpha build of Firefox for Mobile (on your fancy non-phone). However, everyone can enjoy this demonstration of Firefox for Mobile, which marries some iPhone-esque touch and navigation features with Firefox favorites, such as a minimal interpretation of the Awesome Bar and, most significantly, add-on support.
(The promise of mobile add-ons makes my geek heart beat faster.)
Firefox for Mobile has two main UI objectives - removing visible controls from the display and minimizing typing as much as possible. From what we see here, it pulls off those feats pretty damn well - and support for add-ons means that Flash video will be a reality, provided Adobe plays nicely. We should see more alphas in the next few months, including versions for non-touchscreen devices as well as - gasp - Windows Mobile platforms.

3D iPhone glasses. Why?
*GASP* Flash support?!
Now, I don't want to get my hopes up, but am I to assume that this will be available for the iphone?
Oh, no no no...
Remember that Apple will not allow apps that duplicate anything the phone natively does. Everything they do, including Safari on iPhone, is perfect in every way (except MobileMe, but we're forgetting about that one, right?). Remember the whole Podcaster fiasco?
Sadly, I doubt we'll see this at all on the iPhone. This will most definitely hit Android, I think, and maybe a few of the other slightly more open handheld OS's.
