iPhone Firmware 2.2 Jailbroken!

iPhone Unlocked!

The iPhone-Dev folks have finally released what I've been eagerly awaiting since Apple opened the floodgates on the firmware 2.2 update on Friday: the 2.2 jailbreak is now out!

So those of you, like me, that like to run applications that haven't gotten the blessing of the all mighty mothership can upgrade for the shiny new Street View and assorted other upgrades!

This jailbreak update is a little more complex than before if you want to keep the ability to unlock (i.e. be able to use the iPhone 3G with T-Mobile) your iPhone 3G in the near future. With firmware 2.2, Apple has updated the baseband of the iPhone to block recent unlock attempts by the iPhone-Dev team, but those wily hackers have found a way around the problem and released their PwnageTool app with the ability to strip this new unlock-blocking functionality. Just make sure to use the full-fledged PwnageTool (NOT QuickPwn) to upgrade your iPhone 3G to 2.2.

Another word of caution: the 2.2 update also breaks the hardware unlock solutions that we've written about earlier. No more cutting up SIM cards for your unlock fix. Sorry.

A little clarification on iPhone-Dev's instructions for the upgrade: tell iTunes to download the new 2.2 update, but do NOT install it. Then launch PwnageTool and follow the directions, picking your newly downloaded 2.2 update as the ipsw to modify.

Enjoy!

i also have tried the unlock rebel sim or u can say turbo sim that is more popular. That works even faster and better, coz unlocking is not yet possible for iphone 3G, so 2g iPhone is good to keep.
