Twitter And Facebook Breakup, Never Really "Dating"

twitter_fail_whale.png

So, like, Twitter and Facebook were totally, like, dating. But not dating, cause they didn't want to tell anyone, right. So then Twitter was all like "Your way in my bubble! I need to figure out who I am before I get bogged down by someone else." And Facebook was all like, "Well, whatevs! I was totally going to give you, like, a part of me. We would have been soul mates!" But then everyone found out because they were all drama all the time, and we said, as if!

Um... yeah, sorry about that. Not sure where that came from... Anyway! It turns out that Facebook was talking to Twitter about an outright buy-out, but plans have apparently fallen through. The two tech darlings compete in some ways. Twitter provides up-to-the-minute status updates and Facebook does something similar with it's Status'. The deal would have been for $500 million in Facebook stock and zero cash.

Problem is that Twitter really wants to find their own revenue model first. At least, they say they do but they haven't really made much effort to do so yet. And no one is really sure what in the world they mean with $500 million in Facebook stock. It's kind of sketchy, like what kind of stock? With the market the way it is these days, do you really want stocks as payment? On the same token, does Twitter really want to try and find revenue in the same economy?

The buy-out would have made sense to me, at least. For now though, it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Might be smarter in the end. If Twitter can really find a revenue stream, their value as a company would skyrocket!

So, like, does this mean my twitter won't update my facebook anymore? 'Cause that was like totally fab.

Nah, it should still update like normal. That would be waaaay bitter of FB to cut off that functionality.

This isn't like the high drama of Microhoo ;) I think Twitter just really wants to raise their value before talking about selling out to someone is all.
