WPA Wi-Fi Encryption Shows Off A Bit Of Crack

Security researchers Erik Tews and Martin Beck have partially cracked the Wi-Fi Protected Access encryption standard, and will share their findings at next week's PacSec conference in Tokyo. Specifically, the crack attack lets hackers read data sent to a wireless-connected PC from a router - and it only takes about 15 minutes, which sets a new record.
Tews and Beck failed to crack the encryption keys securing data flowing from the PC to the router.
WPA has by and large replaced the now-cracked WEP standard, but the researchers consider the WPA2 standard to be safe. Safe, of course, being an increasingly subjective concept.
