Rumorama: Updated Mac Mini?

Apple_Mac_Mini_CNET_270x202.gif

I've always loved the Mac Mini as a concept, but like many I've thought it could be a great deal more powerful. The form and physical presence are really quite revolutionary compared to any other small form factor computer, and an up-to-par Mini could in theory become a consumer darling, provided it doesn't sacrifice too much function for form.

Well, an Apple corporate employee who spoke on condition of anonymity (to "keep his job") has let it slip that a new desktop would be announced in January.

Remember, back in October a few European retailers were told they couldn't order any more of the $599 Minis, and inventory dry-ups have been indicative of new Apple products in the past.

Then again, Apple's focus on notebooks and mobile computing is undeniably fierce, and it could also be that Apple's phasing out the Mini to concentrate their white-hot magical powers on the mobile stuff.

You know, the mac mini is the perfect office computer, exactly as it is. Office workers don't need super powerful computers, they don't need tons of RAM, or fancy graphics cards, or even large hard drives. Mostly, what they need is an office suite and an internet browser.

Techy people want an inexpensive, powerful computer. People who have to buy computers for their office want an inexpensive, low-maintenance, get-the-job computer. The mac mini is perfect for that.

The Mac Mini has needed an update for more then a year now. Hopefully they'll make it with a better processor then just a 2.4. As far as office computers go. They don't want to buy newer computers for long periods of time. More memory is always better. More then 4gb would be even better then that. The ability to run decent video would make it even better.

Who in an office needs more RAM or the ability to run decent video? I mean, you shouldn't be watching videos at work anyway.
